About Me, and my Community – issue 2

In the second edition of ‘About Me, and my Community’, we present stories and photography on ‘The impact of regeneration on local communities’. The published stories look at the positive and negative aspects of regeneration, the changes of local spaces such as local markets and shops as well as explore what community means in a personal level.

About Me, and my Community – issue 1

‘About Me, and my Community’ is a photography digital visual journal showcasing the work and group activities of older residents of Hammersmith and Fulham, participants of the ‘About Me, and My Community’ photography project run by the Photojournalism Hub.

This first edition showcase photos, poetry and writings reflecting on communities and the environment. We present photographs that highlight the importance of green spaces for our community living and personal introspection. In addition, we also share a beautiful poem by one of our participants dedicated to trees and photographs that highlights moments of collectiveness, visual resonance and reflections.

‘About me, and my community’ is a photography and storytelling project that will provide participants with an encompassing space in which to make new friends and learn the art of Photography and Storytelling.

Participants will be working together taking photos in and around the local communities, and gradually will be exploring and developing their own ideas into photo stories.

During the project, participants will receive guidance and support in tapping into creative processes and will be encouraged to explore places of interest, nurture connections and people; sources of inspiration. Every month, they will have the great opportunity to showcase their work and ideas in a digital zine and at the end of the six month project, they will have the amazing opportunity to be part of a Photography Exhibition.

‘About me, and my community’ is a 6 months project with weekly workshops starting on the 27th June 2022.

During the course of the six months, our weekly meetings will take place at the Nubian Resource Centre, who have offered their lovely space to run the workshops, there will be visits from guest photographers, and related activities such as photography walks, group photography assignments. We will provide equipment for those that do not have a camera or camera phone.

About us

The ‘About Us’ photobook was produced with senior residents living in London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham. It presents a series of photo stories based on the lives of each participant and created by another participant within the project. Participants developed storytelling techniques and basic photography skills, whilst they were able to use visuals as a tool for self expression and a means to develop and foster togetherness and friendship.
Facilitating this project has been a very positive experience and we are very proud for the achievements that participants accomplished.
A special thanks for their valuable support to the funders of the project Hammersmith United Charities @hamunitedcharities and to Hammersmith Community Gardens  @hammersmith_community_gardens for allowing us to use the wonderful Glasshouses in Ravenscourt park.
Special thanks to Tina Wood, from the Masbro Centre @masbrocentre for her valuable assistance during the project and to the participants for their trust and eagerness to learn and be open to the creative processes. It would be a delight to share more on this wonderful community focused project.
